Neelam Baptist Church Golden jubilee celebrated

ZIRO, Feb 2: The golden jubilee of Neelam Baptist Church (NBC) was celebrated here at Neelam village in great fanfare with participation from all walks of life from Neelam and the adjoining villages under Lower Subansiri district on Jan 31 last.
The celebration started with the Golden Jubilee foundation Stone laid there by Speakers Rev. Tar Choya (Old Testament Nyishi Translator) and Rev. Halli Likha, general secretary Nyishi Baptish Church Council (NBCC). Thereafter Rev. Halli unfurled the Golden Jubilee flag.
Organizing Secretary Bro. Neelam Tatam expressed his gratitude to all the delegates who come over from different areas and far of places for taking part in the celebration.
Rev. Tar Choya released the Golden Jubilee Souvenir of Neelam Baptist Church while Bro. Neelam Taje, Souvenir Chairman read out the brief history of Neelam Baptist Church. As the story narrated, a couple, Lt.Neelam Teti and his wife Lt. Neelam Yaya was the first Christian of Neelam village who converted in year 1963. Thereafter, few more persons accepted Christianity. In 1964, they constructed a thatched hut and named it as Neelam Baptist Church and started their Sunday service worship there with few believers. In the beginning, they faced lot of trouble but did not gave up rather improved their church structure and infrastructures and in due course of time numbers of believers increased.
As part of celebration, colourful cultural items were also displayed and presented.
"I was the first batch member of NBC. I never thought I could see today with village children to celebrate the Golden Jubilee. With the blessing of Lord Christ I am here today to witness all this activities," said an elderly village woman Debia Yanie.

Ramesh Negi takes over as new CS
ITANAGAR, Feb 2: Development and Finance Commissioner Ramesh Negi took over the charge of Chief Secretary from sitting incumbent Hari Krishna Paliwal, who attained superannuation on 31st January. A 1984 batch IAS officer Negi belongs to UT cadre.
Prior to his posting to Arunachal in 2012, Negi worked as Chief Executive Officer of Delhi Jal Board. He was credited for massive improvement in the Delhi’s water distribution sector and development of sanitation infrastructure during his tenure. He had also initiated water and sanitation reforms within the DJB by engaging private companies under the PPP model. Negi is considered to be very hard working officer and is often seen attending office way beyond usual deadline to finish work. In a state where government officials are notorious for coming to office very late and leaving early, hope his appointment as chief secretary will improve work culture and improve governance.

Sensitisation Programme on Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan held
ANINI, Feb 2: A sensitisation programme on NIRMAL BHARAT ABHIYAN (NBA) conducted recently at Malinye and Anelih in Dibang Valley District by the Department of Public Health Engineering and Water Supply Division, Anini. The programme was also to create awareness in handling FT kits and plumber methods to PRIs and people at rural areas.
The programme focuses on proper and good sanitary habits to the gathering and safe Drinking Water by means of proper handling of FTK. Formation of Village Water and Sanitation Committee (VWSC) were also highlighted in the programme. All PRI members and public gathered and participated in the programme in which resource persons from Medical and also Laboratory Technician of the Department participated in giving tune to the programme. Dalai Lama inaugurates Tibet Festival

GUWAHATI, Feb 2: His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama inaugurated the Tibet Festival 2014 (Festival of Tibetan Arts & Culture) here at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalashetra in Guwahati, Assam.
The Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi shared the dais with the Sikyong (Prime Minister) of Central Tibetan Aministration (CTA) Dr. Lobsang Sangey and Minister Tourism & RWD (GoAP) Pema Khandu at the inaugural ceremony.
Pema Khandu who is the chief patron of the organizing committee extended his heartiest thanks to His Holiness, the Chief Ministers of both Assam and Meghalaya in rendering all possible support for making the event a huge success. Citing example of Tibetan culture, Pema exhorted, “Its (Tibet) people, religion, art and culture went through extreme turbulent times but managed not only to survive but flourish in lands far away from its origin”, it’s an inspiration to draw from, particularly for we the people of North East who are confronting modernity at the cost of our own rich culture and heritage”, said Pema in his welcome address.

The auspicious inaugural function also had traditional dance performance by the artistes from the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA), and troupes from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. The function concluded with vote of thanks by MP CTA, Karma Yeshi, a member of the Organizing Committee of the festival. Another member of the Organizing Committee, Yangchin Dolkar, also an MP of CTA was the MC of the function.
The 5 days’ Tibet Festival (Festival of Tibetan Art & Culture) is being organized here at Guwahati from 2nd to 6th Feb, 2014 the attractions are globally acclaimed Tibetan sand mandala and butter sculpture creations; display and sale of intricate thangka paintings, assiduous wood carving and handicrafts, exhibition of rare photographs and books and Tibetan medical camp was also set up, talks on Tibetan Culture and Buddhism, performance of traditional dances etc.

Training programmes for small tea growers conducted
ITANAGAR, Feb 2: Tea Board regional office, Itanagar has organized a series of one-
Large number of small tea growers (STG) of both the districts have taken up tea cultivation as their major income source but they are lacking scientific knowledge about it. Three numbers of outreach programmes were organized at Luaksim Village near Kanubari on January 28, at Ranglua village, about 35 km away from Kanubari on January 29 and at Borduria Village on January 30. 70 to 100 Small Tea Growers participated in each programme.
While explaining the objective of the training, Sampha Wangsa, General Secretary of All Arunachal Pradesh Small Tea Growers’ Association appreciated the efforts taken by Tea Board, Regional Office to disseminate scientific knowledge to these remote tea growing areas. B. Bordoloi, Jr. Advisory officer, TRA imparted training on various aspects viz. site selection, soil testing , young tea management, pest and disease management, pesticide residue, correction pruning etc. Various quarries of growers were clarified .
S. Rajbongshi, ADTD, Tea Board, Itanagar shared his work experience in organized
tea garden with participants. He described how different practices viz land preparation,
stalking, planting, Young Tea Management, etc are carried out in an organized tea
garden. He urged the growers to maintain green leaf quality standard at least 65
per cent fine leaf since quality tea can be produced from good quality green leaves
only. Growers should select only recommended pesticides only. He also elaborated
various financial benefits that can be provided to STGs in the form of SHG. SHG
members can collect and transport green leaves to factories with own vehicle (can
be provided with 50 per cent subsidy) without depending on leaf agents. By forming
SHG the STGs of Kanubari and Ranglua can think of starting their own co-

Promises never turn true

Arunachal Pradesh is now moving ahead in every field be it education, infrastructure, health etc. However the fruits of development are still not reaching certain parts of state. One classic example is Miglung Village, situated just 22km away from district HQ. Pasighat (East Siang). The age old village is surrounded by two rivers Remi and Marbang which is threatening its very existence with each passing year.
The villagers of Miglung cross the mighty Remi River during summer season using a
WRC hanging bridge, which is the only lifeline to around 500 populations settled

Five MLA elections has been held since then but neither concerned MLA nor state Government is taking pain in addressing the cry of poor villagers. Why State Government is turning a deaf ear?? People need an answer!! No offence please. Every election leaders make tall promises; I will do this and that then how come their promises never turn true?? The long overdue demand of Miglung is being ignored. As election is due this year people are expecting high hope from upcoming leaders to take up the issue in priority.

Dear Editor,
Due to the recent boundary clash at Tarasso circle subsequently followed by apt repeated economic blockade launched by Assam based organization, it's the common people who are suffering most for no mistake of theirs. The boundary problem has long been simmering but the respective Govt. on both sides have dilly dallied in pursuing the matter to an end.
In all this mayhem, the student community particularly those studying outside have to bear the brunt mostly. And also with the exam session just a week away for the Shillong and Guwahati based institutes, the students are left in a lurch. Unable to report to exam or so will set them back for a year. Henceforth, considering the gravity of the situation, it's my ardent request to the Transport Officer to provide buses with security guards to escort the students safely.

Is chopper service only for kiths and kins of bigwigs?
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily I would like to draw the attention of state government that the poor students who are staying in Guwahati for various purposes are denied chopper facilities. It is why that all time kiths and kins of political bigwigs and top bureaucrats are given first preferences of chopper facilities from GHY to Itanagar? So we the poor students of Guwahati plead the state Government to look into the matter in the interest of student community.
